The company’s official website: www.skinceuticals.com stated that SkinCeuticals Simply Clean is “ideal for combination or oily skin”.  Now, I don’t know about you but I feel like I need to know the definition of “combination” to understand the product’s capability to care for the skin.

“Combination skin”, according to Annet King – Director of Global Education for Dermalogica and The International Dermal Institute from a www.teenvogue.com article, “is the most common skin type.”  It’s having both oily parts of the skin (the T-zone for most people) and dry parts.  Combination skin is really hard to treat because you don’t know which to address first.  But with SkinCeuticals Simply Clean’s promise to look after this type of skin, you may not need to worry about things like: “Am I going to clean my T-zone first with one product and the rest of my face with another?”.  You’ve got to admit that it’s quite daunting to choose which treatment works best for your face with so many skin improvement products available in the market today.

SkinCeuticals Simply Clean has 1% hydroxy acids, botanical extracts and oil-free exfoliating formula with gentle foaming action for normal or oily skin (and if you frequent their website, you would know I’ve actually copied this verbatim  from the product’s “Ingredients” tab).  So, Simply Clean exfoliates, clarifies and removes the skin’s excess oil while addressing the dry spots as well.

Whenever I’m considering to try a new product, like what I’m doing now with SkinCeuticals Gentle Cleanser, I search for unbiased reviews on the internet about the product.  It’s so hard to find genuine reviews, I remind you.  So you really have to go through each search result.

Anyway, I found a forum thread on www.essentialdayspa.com about SkinCeuticals Gentle Cleanser.  Almost all of them has something good to say about the product.

The application of SkinCeuticals Emollience is as simple as the application of any moisturizer.  You may apply it once or twice every day to your face, neck and chest preferably after using the line’s antioxidant.  The lady from www.bellasugar.com included her own take on the application in her review of the product.

All you really need is a pinky nail bed-sized dollop for your entire face and neck.

… I apply it in the morning and my face doesn’t dry out even the slightest bit all day. It absorbs quickly so I can put my makeup on right away without any base or powder sliding off. I use a little bit extra in the evenings, along with an eye cream and when I wake up, my skin looks splotch-free and feels like buttah.

SkinCeuticals Clarifying Cleanser for acne-prone skin

The SkinCeuticals Clarifying Cleanser was created for acne-prone skin.  If you’ve read about the last post I made for another SkinCeuticals product for problematic skin: Phyto Corrective Gel, then you might already have an idea of how much I dislike my pimples.  But who doesn’t share my feelings towards acne really?

I started having acne in high school and it was an excruciating experience because I was the only one in my family (and among my friends) who has this kind of problem.  The pimples lessened when I was in College. The reason could have been because I started eating more vegetables and caring more about my skincare routine. But just when I almost got myself convinced that I only had acne problem because of the hormonal changes that my body was undergoing in my adolescence, my skin started breaking out again.  Even now,  at 31, my skin is still vulnerable to acne.  So what’s a frustrated woman left to do?  Yep, it’s to start checking out products like SkinCeuticals Clarifying Cleanser and see if it can help me deal with my skin problem.

None of them actually mentioned about peeling and drying.  Their reviews on the product are all on a positive note and I’m starting to feel the HOPE rising on my acne-prone existence.  It’s a BIG sign that SkinCeuticals Clarifying Cleanser is a must-have skincare product for those who are sick and tired of their pimple-prone skin.

Why? What’s the difference between SkinCeuticals Serum 15 and Serum 10?

Surprise, surprise, it’s just actually the concentration of L-ascorbic acid present in the product.  SkinCeuticals, the company, also has another product recommended for you if your skin happens to tolerate the Serum 15.  It’s called SkinCeuticals Serum 20 (which contains20% L-ascorbic acid, obviously).  But Serum 20 is a completely different topic to write about.

Going back, SkinCeuticals Serum 15 also has ferulic acid (another antioxidant).  The product boasts of restoring your sensitive skin back to a smooth, healthy one.  It also protects your skin from environmental damage.  I’m quoting the previous sentence straight from the product’s official site, by the way.

For those of you who are new to L-ascorbic acid, it’s just basically a pure version of Vitamin C.  SkinCeuticals use this element in their other products like CE Ferulic, C + AHA, Phloretin CF not to mention  their two Serums 10 and 20.  L-ascorbic acid is known to be one of the common elements in skincare products because of it’s antioxidizing power.  It needs to be stable to be able to give its maximum effect though, that’s why ferulic acid is added.  According to researchers from www.bulkactives.com,

Vitamin C (L-ascorbic acid) is one of the very few skin care ingredients that is supported by strong and reliable scientific research and evidence.

However, it is also one of the most difficult products to formulate with, because it is extremely unstable.

SkinCeuticals Serum 15 should be applied in the morning after cleaning and drying your face, neck and chest.  Don’t go overboard with the amount you should be using.  SkinCeuticals specifically instructs on their site to use just between 4 and 5 drops of the product.  You have to remember though that it does not work like a moisturizer does so you should follow it up with one plus sunscreen.

As for SkinCeuticals effectiveness, I gathered 2 reviews from actual users on the web (because I can’t very well include all reviews in one article).  The product is the editor’s favorite on www.beautyhype.com.

The Editor at www.beautyhype.com recommends SkinCeuticals Serum 15

SkinCeuticals Serum 15 is one of my favorite skincare products. It’s the only product I’ve used that has made a visible difference in my skin. People have told me that my skin has a glow to it now.

Another unbiased cut on Serum 15 is coming from Melanie Dee’s The 20 Day Test with SkinCeuticals Serum 15 AOX+.  She recorded her daily experience on the product’s application.

In addition, Wikipedia has a more scientific way of explaining how it was found out that Vitamin B5 is can also cure acne.  I just have to quote this straight from the source because there’s no way I can explain this through simple and less technical terms.

According to a study published in 1995 by Dr. Lit-Hung Leung,[32] high doses of vitamin B5 resolved acne and decreased pore size. Dr. Leung also proposed a mechanism, stating that CoA regulates both hormones and fatty acids, and without sufficient quantities of pantothenic acid, CoA will preferentially produce androgens. I’m sure you’re wondering how to apply the products.  Let’s deal with how you should use the SkinCeuticals Hydrating B5 Gel first.  From the product’s official site, it is recommended to use it with an antioxidant, a moisturizer and sunscreen for a maximum effect.

Once or twice daily, apply 2-3 drops to face, neck and chest avoiding the eye area. May also be applied to other dehydrated areas. Use after a SkinCeuticals antioxidant and follow with a SkinCeuticals moisturizer and sunscreen.

The SkinCeuticals Hydrating B5 Masque should be applied like how you would a regular face masque.

Use at night, once or twice weekly. After cleansing and toning, apply a generous, even layer to the entire face and neck. Allow to penetrate for 10-15 minutes and gently massage any excess product into the skin.

There’s really a high concentration of hyaluronic acid on this product so it’s quite effective as a moisturizer.

Per usual, I’m a sucker for product reviews so I searched for unbiased opinions on both the gel and the masque on the internet.  I found the Kaley from www.kaley-somethingtocheerabout-kaley.blogspot.com who used both SkinCeuticals products as a recommendation from her facialist.  In her post titled “Winter Skin Help” she included both products in her regimen and is quite happy with the results.

It’s hard to ignore the experts’ advice, don’t you think?  I’m convinced that if I need to boost my skin’s moisture especially during the winter months, I should ask for extra help from either SkinCeuticals Hydrating B5 gel or masque.

SkinCeuticals Serum 10 (10% L-ascorbic acid)

SkinCeuticals Serum 10 is designed for sensitive skin and defends it from early signs of aging brought about by the sun and other environmental factors.  This is a great definition of a skin product don’t you think?  I mean most of us hope that with all these skincare lines in the market competing against each other, there’s at least one that’s going to deliver what it promises.  Right?  It’s really stressful (not to mention hearbreaking and costly) to buy a product which guarantees essentially high effects but actually provides the lowest quality.

With that said, I would like to take up this space right here to talk more about SkinCeuticals Serum 10 AOX (advanced antioxidant technology).

Ingredients

The product’s official site listed ferulic acid and 10% L-ascorbic acid (the pure and potent Vitamin C) as the key ingredients of Serum 10 (thus the number 10 on its name).  These two acids are powerful antioxidants and I remember writing about them in the article about SkinCeuticals CE Ferulic. If combined, their antioxidizing power is doubled.

The acids however, especially the L-ascorbic acid may cause tingling or a subtle biting pain but it will only last for a short time according to a blogger at www.womenlovebeauty.com.

I have encountered some minor temporarily irritation with tingling sensation that last about 10 minutes or so during my first few rounds of applications. In fact, some dermatologists believe that these are the signs that the product is working.

One thing that you should take note about the Eye Renewal gel though is to NOT use it during the day.  The hydroxy acid blend, I’ve gathered, reacts badly with daylight.  You may end up with damaged skin.  It’s safe for the sensitve areas around the eyes however.  Just apply it at night.
