Product Information
My sister, who is fair-skinned, has a problem with hyper pigmentation and a friend recommended several products to her including SkinCeuticals Pigment Regulator. Her spots are flat and brownish. She asked her derma if they’re cancer-causing and was relieved to know that they aren’t –just normal spots that signify aging. So her skin goal this time is to minimize (if getting rid of them is close to impossible) these brown, age spots. My reaction when she told me this was “What a coincidence!” I’ve been encountering (and have written a few posts about) the SkinCeuticals Skin line ever since I started looking for products that can help me with my skin problems as well. So I told her to stay put and let me do the researching.
The product’s official site boasts of the effectiveness of SkinCeuticals Pigment Regulator.
Proven as effective as the leading medical standard for treating hyperpigmentation, Pigment Regulator lightens and reduces existing hyperpigmentation, improves overall skin tone, and protects skin from future discolorations without the potentially harmful side-effects of harsh bleaching agents.
For me, this is quite a great promise because I don’t like using really harsh products on my skin that leave a tingling and cutting feeling. And if these kinds of feelings are inevitable, then at least the sting from the application should be subtle enough or something that lies within my threshold of pain.
SkinCeuticals Pigment Regulator’s formulation is waiting for patent approval. It is made with 2% Kojic Acid, 2% Emblica, and 10% exfoliating blend. I learned from http://beauty.ance-information.net that Kojic acid is usually present in whitening soaps and has been used in countries like Japan. The site says:
Kojic acid is widely used as a skin lightening agent in Japan and other Asian countries due to its ability to inhibit the the enzyme tyrosinase. Tyrosinase is necessary for the synthesis of melanin, which gives skin its coloring. It comes from fungus and can also be obtained during the fermentation process used to make Japanese rice wine. In addition to its skin lightening properties when applied topically, kojic acid also has antibacterial, antifungal and antioxidant properties. It can prevent fruits from turning brown and is also used to preserve the pink and red color of seafood.
Emblica, on one hand, is a cosmetic ingredient derived from Indian gooseberry scientifically known as Phyllanthus emblica. Emblica, according to Merck, is used as:
Pro-oxidation-free cascading antioxidant, skin lightening agent and hyperpigmentation reducer.
Basically, SkinCeuticals Pigment Regulator is a combination of elements that promotes skin-lightening and are mostly derived from nature. SkinCeuticals have formulated the product in a proportion that won’t irritate the skin. This is a very important thing for any of us who hesitantly venture on new skin products.
In addition, my sister shares my thoughts on skin products that are both effective and safe so I searched the whole web for any reviews I can get out SkinCeuticals Pigment Regulator users. What I found out are rather interesting and impressive:
1. SkinCeuticals Pigment Regulator is this year’s Silver Aesthetic Award Winner for Best Product Innovation.
3. It comes in a new packaging that will surely preserve the product.
4. Dermatologists and cosmetic surgeons actually recommend SkinCeuticals Pigment Regulator for age spots or melasma problems.
Marné CarMichael Walsh, Dr. John Stover’s assistant, published in her blog that one of the steps in preventing and minimizing the apperance of age spots is to use SkinCeuticals Pigment Regulator.
The next step would be to use a skin lightening agent such as the Obagi Nuderm skin care line, Neocutis Blanche or more natural products such as Skinceuticals Pigment Regulator or Phyto +. Incorporating a prescription for tretinoin (Retin A), or the weaker non-prescription product Skinceuticals Retinol, would synergistically work with the skin lighteners for even better results.
I’m impressed and so is my sister. So I think SkinCeuticals Pigment Regulator has just won two more potential users.
